Conceptual Fiction is a library of reviews and articles on science fiction, fantasy and horror books, and on the films adapted from them.
The collection is organised around conceptual fiction: novels and stories built on an idea that changes how their world works, from alternate histories and first contact to simulated realities, social experiments and posthuman futures.
Most of the library is a long run of book reviews by the critic Ted Gioia, credited to him on the review pages. The reviews cover classic and contemporary writers alike, and many of them read a novel against the ideas and the period that produced it.
Alongside the reviews sit shorter articles on the history of the genre, on science fiction in film, and on the way its predictions show up in present-day technology.
Readers can browse by genre, by author or through the reading paths, or open the complete archive and move through every review in order.
