About Conceptual Fiction

ConceptualFiction.com publishes long reviews and essays on science fiction books, alongside an archive of older criticism that goes back to the late 2000s.

What the reviews cover

Each review starts from the premise of a book, the one change to the world that the rest of the story depends on, and then looks at what the author does with it. Plot gets enough space to follow the argument. Comparisons with other novels get more.

You can come in through a single book, an author, a genre or one of the reading paths. A novel is often filed in two places at once; Solaris, for example, sits under first contact and under reality and simulation.

Who writes here

New reviews and essays are published under the collective byline Conceptual Fiction Editors. Older reviews in the archive carry the name of the critic who wrote them.
